What does the Spring Equinox Mean for You, Spiritually & Emotionally?
The Spring Equinox is a joyful holiday centered around rebirth & growth. It is the arrival of spring! The Earth is coming alive again.
The Spring Equinox is a festival of awakening and rebirth.
The dark months are now over & we’re moving into the warmth of the light. (The sun will continue to grow until the Summer Solstice, when it begins its turn inward again.)
With the Spring Equinox, your spirit is waking up with new ideas & new dreams for your life. Its fresh, warm energy has the power to make you feel alive & inspired.
The end of winter can sometimes feel a little rocky. The energy shifting from an inward-focus to outwardly-focused can make you feel a bit off-kilter.
Implementing changes required in order to grow & flourish can really disrupt your sense of equilibrium in late winter. But with the Spring Equinox, the Earth returns to a place of perfect balance. Day & night are equal, the light & the dark––bringing the return of some much-needed balance into your own life.
Overall, Spring is a joyful time. Everything is coming alive. Nature is waking up & being reborn.
The same thing is happening within you. Your spirit is coming alive with hopeful, excited energy. Parts of you are being reborn & coming alive in ways they never have before.
Spring represents a new day; it’s dawn in the wheel of the year. A new sun is rising. Life is waking up in the warm sunlight & your spirit feels ready to make a fresh start.
This time of year your spirits are bright & coming alive with new ideas; hopefully you’re feeling inspired & excited to try new things.
Your work this season is to determine which of your winter dreams you want to focus spring’s powerful growth energy on.
Here at the beginning of the season lots of new ideas are calling out to you. All these things are buzzing with new life around you. This month is about trying new things out: What excites you right now? What are you interested in? What are you drawn toward?
Approach your daydreams & new ideas with a light-hearted, child-like spirit: if it calls to you … try it! Just go for it. Have fun!
Because this is the season of illumination. Spring brings clarity. This is the time to get really clear on what you want to see grow in your life & what you want to harvest. In order to gain that clarity you need to try out what’s calling you.
Spring & summer bring powerful growth energy. If you’re not clear on where to focus that energy, it can feel chaotic & overwhelming. Your energy gets pulled in many different directions & it burns you out.
In order to gain that clarity, this month try out new ideas, connect with early spring’s playful, curious spirit. Look closely at what seeds you want to plant & decide what you want to harvest in the months ahead.
-The inspiring Spring Equinox energy is encouraging you to be reborn.
-Embrace this new beginning. The spring energy will fuel your growth as the days get longer & the sun grows warmer.
-Which seeds are you going to plant in the ground to tend & harvest?
-If you’re really clear on where you want to see new growth, you have the power to transform your life.

WHAT’S NEW
Great News!
Leah is so happy to announce that Bijou will soon be able to accept insurance for acupuncture services!
What, is this true?
The good news is that yes, many insurance companies now offer policies that cover acupuncture and related services performed by an acupuncturist.
Does my insurance cover acupuncture?
You can find out if your insurance provides acupuncture benefits by calling your insurance company’s patient information or benefits line. This number can be found on your insurance card.
If your insurance provider does cover acupuncture, here are a few questions that you can ask to determine your eligibility and coverage:
- How many treatments do I get?
- How much does the insurance company pay?
- What percentage will I pay for out-of-network practitioners? (This is the amount you would pay out-of-pocket for each visit to a practitioner who is NOT on their provider list.
- Will I need a referral from an MD to see the acupuncturist?
- What is my deductible?
- What conditions are covered for acupuncture? (Many plans only cover the treatment of pain)

Lately, there’s a lot of buzz about the chakras, chakra healing, and chakra balancing. But before we dive into how to balance the chakras, it’s important to know what they are, what they represent, and how they impact our minds, bodies, and lives. This article covers it all!
To start, it’s important to know that each chakra is represented by a specific color, shape, name, and location in the body. There are 7 chakras total, each one located at significant locations in the body, and each one representing a piece of our energetic being.
Each chakra is connected to a different aspect of ourselves, and as a result, each one impacts different parts of our wellbeing on a physical, emotional, and energetic level. Read on to learn everything you need to know about the chakra system.
Chakra System Introduction and Overview
Think of the chakras as spinning wheels of energy – wheels that spin simultaneously to create a combination of energy and life force.
This energy and life force runs from the root base of the body (the Root Chakra (https://www.yogiapproved.com/om/the-base-chakra-how-it-impacts-your-quality-of-life/) ), to the crown of the head (the Crown Chakra (https://www.yogiapproved.com/om/the-crown-chakra-how-it-connects-you-to-the-divine/) ), and then beyond.
When the chakras are balanced and spinning effortlessly, life is beautiful. We experience a sense of fullness in all aspects – emotional, mental, and physical; mind, body, and soul. Our relationships, conversations, actions, goals, and interests just flow.
A balanced chakra system can be thought of as refreshing water running down a stream, gently caressing everything it meets, and continuing down its journey with ease, grace, and fluidity.
When the chakras are misaligned – one being overactive and another being under-active – life can be challenging. This misalignment might not be apparent on the surface, but delve down a layer or two and you’ll quickly notice where your work lies.
This is where practices such as yoga come into play and why people love the practice so much. But unlike physical yoga postures, the chakra system is unseen and internal.
The seven chakras are part of the subtle body, or the energetic body. It’s the part that we can’t see or touch but can always feel. It’s the part of us that makes the heart beat, the piece of us that feels a gut intuition, and the energy within us that connects, moves, and creates our being.
This topic, the chakras, has an abundance of information and depth to it – a depth that cannot be accomplished here or even in a day, week or month. 😉 What can be accomplished in these classes is an overview of each chakra, what they represent, and how they affect the body, mind, and soul.
-Here is a little sneak peak at what we will be exploring in the first class.

Stay Healthy This Spring
According to Chinese Medicine theory, all things in the universe are representative of the five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Each element has defining characteristics and represents a specific phase of being. A great example lies in the seasons of the year. We are just wrapping up (hopefully!) winter or water season, and are making our way into spring which is wood season. Things are moving from cold and dormant to warm(er) and vibrant.
Spring is a very powerful time of year that represents new beginnings, birth, growth, and development. If you’ve been sitting on a new idea throughout the winter, spring is when plans begin to take shape. The wood phase transforms potential energy into movement and form.
Just like the seasons, organs in the body are defined by the five elements. The wood element rules the liver and its functions, according to Chinese Medicine. When the liver is in balance, things flow smoothly, the immune system is robust, the eyes are clear, and the body is flexible. Ideally, we would start the spring season this way, but after a bitterly cold winter, overindulging during the holidays, and the added stress of our wacky world, many of us probably feel less than spring-y right now.
If you find that you are irritable, inflamed, rigid, and sneezy, then it’s a good indication that your liver might need a little love, and your wood element could use some balance. Here are some ways to get back on track and harness the energy of the spring season:
Detox
if you’ve pondered giving up alcohol, soda, or processed foods, this is the season to do it. The liver is the main organ involved in detoxification, and sometimes it just needs a break. If you are feeling extra ambitious, you might consider a five-day detox diet or a three-week elimination diet to rule out food sensitivities. I’ve created a free guide for a five-day detox (https://leahchischilly.com/detox/) , and if you want to learn more about an elimination diet, I’m happy to help.
Incorporate Sour Foods
Every organ has a flavor associated with it, and eating foods of that flavor can help restore balance the organ. Sour is the flavor associated with the liver. Lemons, limes, fermented foods, and other foods with vinegar-like qualities are excellent choices for the spring. Like all things, it’s about balance, so don’t go overboard, but do work some sour foods into your diet.
Go Green
Green is the color associated with the wood element, and it’s an easy way to remember what foods to eat to support your liver. If it’s green, it’s good. Adding more green veggies to your diet is always a good idea, but especially during the springtime.
Cut Back on Comfort Foods
When it’s cold outside, it’s natural to seek comfort from warm, hearty, and rich foods. Trust me; I love a cheese-based casserole as much as the next person! However, heavy foods make it tough to embrace the expansive energy of springtime. Make an effort to cut back on dairy, red meat, and baked goods to get back to feeling light and right.
Get Acupuncture!
You knew I had to throw that in there 😉 Acupuncture is a great way to help your body transition smoothly from one season to the next. In fact, there is even a specific treatment that can be done on the equinox to get you balanced and ready for all things spring. Book your appointment for March 20th now by contacting any service provider or use this link (https://app.salonrunner.com/customer/login.htm?id=35802#ath)!!!

** Usage Tips:
————————————————————
* After a difficult day, diffuse Cedarwood to create a relaxing environment.
* During your facial routine, add one to two drops to your facial toner or moisturizer to promote clear, healthy-looking skin.
* Place a drop on a cotton ball and place in closet to keep moths at bay.
* Before exercising, massage one to two drops into your chest to maintain vitality throughout your workout.
* When a child wakes up scared in the night, apply to the bottom of feet to return to a peaceful feeling.
What Does Cedarwood Essential Oil Help With?
The warm, woody, and somewhat balsamic aroma of Cedarwood essential oil is relaxing and calming. Due to its high concentration of the sesquiterpene alcohol cedrol, Cedarwood is one of the most grounding essential oils. You can enjoy Cedarwood’s relaxing qualities by diffusing Cedarwood for a calming aroma that helps you unwind before bed.
What Are The Health Benefits Of Cedarwood?
Cedarwood has clarifying properties when used topically. Incorporate it into your facial skin care routine to help keep the skin looking healthy and clear. Use a drop on skin blemishes to improve their appearance.
One of the traditional uses for Cedarwood is to repel bugs. Place a drop of Cedarwood on a cotton ball and keep it in your closet or storage boxes to repel moths. You can also add Cedarwood oil to mulch or topsoil to discourage insects.
Cedarwood essential oil is often used as a base note for scents and perfumes. The aroma blends well with a variety of citrus and floral essential oils such as Bergamot, Jasmine, Rose and Lemon.
Where Does Cedarwood Come From?
doTERRA Cedarwood is distilled from the wood of the hardy Red Cedar tree, which reaches heights up to 100 feet and thrives under difficult conditions. The aromatic, brownish-red wood is a remarkable material with powerful properties that come from tree’s essential oil content. Red cedar is purifying to the air and repels moths. Like the resilient tree it comes from, Cedarwood essential oil evokes feelings of stability, determination, and vitality.
